Podiatric biomechanics is evaluating the lower limb and assessing the alignment and foot function.
The Assessment will include:
- Muscle strength and resistance tests on the hips, thighs, lower leg, knees and foot.
- Range of Motion on the lower limb
- Neurological assessment
- Weight bearing assessment (Gait analysis)
- Non- weight bearing assessment
Common Biomechanical complaints:
- Flat foot
- High Arch
- Plantar fasciitis
- Leg length discrepancies
- Knee pain
- Metatarsalgia pain
- Heel pain
- Ankle sprains
Once the Podiatrist has completed the Gait analysis, then orthotics will be prescribed.
These will be tried for two weeks and then re-assessed for modifications.
If you are happy to continue with the treatment plan then a prescription will be made for permanent custom made orthotics to be manufactured.
Shoe advice is given in the consultation to ensure you are wearing the appropriate footwear.
